The wild,
met with intention

Photographic safaris across East Africa, Botswana and Namibia. Small groups, purpose-built vehicles, and days written by the light.

Wild Iris Africa

We do not sell itineraries. We plan for the hour before sunrise, the wait at the river, the one frame that makes the fortnight - and we build everything else around it.

Fifteen journeys, one obsession

Clement gave us the two most extraordinary weeks of our lives. Every morning was thought through - the light, the position, the story. We came home with photographs we'll frame for the rest of our lives.

Founder-led

Every journey is planned in the same room as the photographer who leads it.

Clement Mabula (IPIOSC) has spent his working life reading light on the plains between Arusha and the Mara. Wild Iris exists because he grew tired of watching great sightings ruined by schedules - so he built the vehicles, chose the guides, and kept the groups small enough to stay.

Our commitments

Frequently asked

Before you write to us.

  • Do I need to be a professional photographer to join a photographic journey?

Not at all. Half of our guests are enthusiastic amateurs. What matters is the appetite - waking before dawn, waiting for the light, and letting the animals dictate the day. Our team will happily guide you on settings, composition and gear.

  • What camera gear do you recommend I bring?

A telephoto in the 100–500mm range covers most wildlife. A second body with a 24–70mm handles landscapes, camp, and portraiture. We provide bean bags, gimbal heads and window mounts on every seat.

  • How large are your groups?

Photographic journeys carry a maximum of three guests per vehicle. Signature Luxury journeys are private by default. Classic circuits accommodate up to six guests.

  • When is the best time to travel?

It depends entirely on what you want to photograph. Great Migration river crossings - July to October. Calving season - late January to March. Gorilla trekking - June to August or December to February. We'll help you plan around your images.

  • How safe is safari travel?

East Africa is one of the safest travel regions in the world. We work with vetted camps, licensed guides, comprehensive insurance, and medical evacuation coverage on every itinerary.

  • What happens after I submit an inquiry?

You'll hear from our team within 24 hours. We'll set up a call, understand what you want to photograph and how you like to travel, and shape a first draft itinerary together.
